This weekend we were able to knock out one more task on our Big Boy Room “To Do” List: Box Valances. The whole thing seemed like a daunting task until we got underway and realized how simple it really is!
First things first: determine the width, height and depth you want for the box valance. The windows in this room are 48″ wide and we wanted a snug fit over the window frame so our valance box is 48″ wide, 10″ in height and 6 inches deep. This assembly was easy and just requires some nails, a hammer, and Liquid Nails for a little extra reinforcement.
After your batting is secured, you can start stapling the fabric over it. I bought 2 yards of burlap with a red, navy, and silver circle and star design printed on it. For a neat and tight fold, I wrapped the corners and sides like you would wrap a present. Pull the fabric tight and don’t be stingy with the staples!
