My August 7 due date is quickly approaching and we are finally on the heels of summer! The sunshine and warmer weather has brought the nesting bug out to play. Since Noah’s nursery is as gender neutral as you can get, I won’t be changing a thing. Instead, I am nesting in Noah’s big boy room!
I have been scouring Craigslist for a great deal on dressers for Noah’s
room for months and finally, 2 weeks ago, I hit the jackpot! I scored
2 dressers for $80 total! The chest of drawers was $30 and unfortunately, rougher and lower quality than I had hoped. The dresser is a little beat up, but sturdy and made of oak.
The chest of drawers left me defeated for a moment with it’s rough, particle board exterior. The top 2 drawers had truly seen better days. A little imagination mixed with my hand sander and navy chalk paint was the key to seeing my project through!
We had to sand/prep more than I’ve ever had to when using chalk paint. The top of the oak dresser needed to be sanded until it was all even, which my lovely husband did for me. Sanding is my most hated task of projects.
Although the dressers are painted, they still sit unwaxed in the garage. I received part 1 of my order from China containing my awesome new drawer pulls. The only not awesome part: they were smaller than the previous pulls. I used Plastic Wood to fill the holes on all the drawers. I chose Plastic Wood over Wood Filler because it can be sanded and stained/painted.
I need 2 more coats of American Chalk Paint on my drawers and then everything will get clear and dark wax. I am hoping to wrap up this portion of Operation: Big Boy room this coming weekend! Stay tuned for the finished results!
