How tall are you and what size do you wear?
For sizing purposes, I am happy to share these details here and also try to include them in outfit posts. I am 5’6″ and I vacillate between a size 2/4 and 25/26 depending on the brand [and how much I ate the night before!]
What are your go-to retailers/brands?
I pride myself on being budget conscious when I am shopping. I regularly shop at TJ Maxx, Old Navy, J. Crew Factory, Target and Nordstom Rack. When I am in a pinch and can’t afford time to dig through, I defer to heavyweight retailers like department stores and non-outlet retailers. Nordstrom, Macy’s, LOFT, Express, and boutiques are among the stores I frequent
How long have you been blogging?
I started my first blog in 2010 shortly after our wedding. In 2012, with a new baby and new home, I blogged under a new handle with a focus on my Etsy hand painted signs, invitation and printable designs, party planning and diy projects.
Ooh La Laura launched in 2015. While it has taken nearly 8 years to find my groove, Ooh La Laura focuses on affordable fashion and practical beauty products/routines, DIY projects, marriage and motherhood.
Why Ooh La Laura?
I wanted to be Rachel Green when I grew up. Perfectly coiffed hair aside, her “job” at Ralph Lauren inspired me to major in fashion merchandising at the University of Kentucky. Unfortunately I graduated months before the economic downturn. With a wedding and honeymoon to save for, I decided to pursue a career with a stable salary in lieu of a commission-based retail associate position.
Practicality was a necessity in that season, but I am grateful to get back to my passion for styling, shopping and writing on the blog posts of this site. You can read more about my journey to this point in my life here.
Is Ooh La Laura your full time job?
Up until summer of 2018 I worked as a communication coordinator for a religious institution. I resigned from that position to pursue blogging full time and to stay home with my three children. You can read more about the decision behind that move here.
What do all the initials stand for in your blog posts?
From time to time you may see me refer to my husband and children by their initials. N, A, L stand for my oldest son, Noah, my daughter, Aria, and my youngest son, Leo. STC stands for my husband, Taylor, who is one of those middle names as a first name people.
How did you meet your husband?
Taylor and I met at the University of Kentucky where we both attended college. My cousin was dating one of his buddies. They arranged for Taylor to be my date to our fall sorority formal. A month following the formal while I was home for winter break, STC drove up to Cincinnati to take me out on a real first date. We’ve been together ever since <3.
How do you stay fit?
I run between 3 and 3.5 miles 6-7 days a week. Full disclosure: I couldn’t even run the mile in grade school and high school but now running is a daily outlet. You can read more on how I became a runner here. Trigger warning: it started with a miscarriage.
I also utilize Beachbody On Demand [I’m a coach!] work outs [21 Day Fix is my jam] and frequent exercise classes at the YMCA.
