We are [finally] putting the finishing touches Noah’s big boy room while simultaneously putting the nursery back together. While you are waiting for the Big Boy Room Reveal, I thought it would be fun to share the process of putting together his first room, the nursery in our old apartment!
I didn’t dare look at anything baby up until the 12 week mark, but once the day came, I made my first purchase and solidified my love affair with Pottery Barn Kids (PBK).
Pending a coin flip, we were either going to know the sex of the baby or not so it was in our best (financial) interest to go with a gender neutral themed nursery. At the time, gingham was all the rage in nursery decor and PBK featured a gingham-based Very Hungry Caterpillar ensemble in the Fall of 2011. This will probably come as a shock, but seeing this bedding was the first I had ever heard or seen of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and all things Eric Carle. Honestly, the bedding could have had anything on it as long as it met my requirements of gingham and primary colors.
Once you start painting and gluing, you can’t wait to see what else you can put together, so off to Hobby Lobby I went to find my next nursery craft project. I purchased a wooden alphabet block box, brought out the paint brushes and got to work covering it in a coat of white paint first and then painting each letter a different primary color.
The Hungry Caterpillar collection at PBK has a variety of products to purchase, one being a piece of canvas wall art featuring the Hungry Caterpillar himself. It was adorable, $119.00, and way out of my price range.
On a January day, in the final weeks of my third trimester, I decided the nursery wouldn’t be complete without a pop of color on the walls. So I dragged Taylor to Home Depot to pick up a can of color-matched paint and begged him to paint these rented walls so our baby wouldn’t feel like it was in an insane asylum. That guy is a trooper, I tell you what! Not only did he paint them in January prior to Noah’s arrival, but he painted them white again 9 months later when we moved out. **Lucky girl right here!!**
