Believe it or not, we weren’t always a DIY family. Apartment living doesn’t really lend itself to the space or imagination you need for DIYing, but that all changed when we moved into our house. The wall behind our couches was practically begging for a statement table and since I have Pottery Barn dreams on a TJ Maxx budget, building something ourselves was the only way we could afford a piece of furniture for that empty, sad space.
Last summer, I roped Taylor into the “we can make this” frame of mind and presented him with this Rustic Console table plan from Ana White. He was more than up to the challenge and needing to purchase his first saw made it all the more appealing to him. With determination on his side, he got started right away (I really thought it would take more nudging!).
After the table was tea-d up and sanded down (again), I mixed Briwax dark brown wax (per the instructions) with Miniwax clear wax. Mixing was more of a struggle than I thought it would be based on The Friendly Home’s post.
As of this week I am in full on nesting mode and I’m making a list of areas to tackle and organize. Stay tuned for what my 8 month pregnant self actually gets accomplished….
